New Jersey sits at the head of the class for the top states to raise a child. This comes from the Foundation for Child Development which puts out an annual Child Well Being Index that is a state-by-state comparison of the quality of life for children across the country.
Ranking at number 1, New Jersey was in the top 10 in five categories including #1 for social relationships. The index uses 28 indicators across 7 categories which include health, safe/risky behavior, community engagement, social relationships, family economic well-being, education attainment and emotional/spiritual well-being. These 7 categories are used to assess the overall child well being.
